Choosing the Right Hand Truck for Your Needs

No matter what kind of business you are in, chances are you might need to transport heavy cartons, boxes or just move heavy stuff around. Hand trucks are not just reserved for companies that deal with storage, delivery, transport or food, but plenty of other places such as restaurants, hotels and even offices find them useful.  A hand truck is much more heavy-duty-tolerant and can lift much heavier stuff.

When shopping for a hand truck, you will find plenty of choices in the market. They come in all shapes, sizes, brands, designs and load capacities, and you need to know exactly what you want in order to make an informed choice. Here are a few  simple tips for help with choosing the right hand truck for your needs.

The most important question to ask yourself when choosing a hand truck, is “What will I be using this for?”  Do you intend to carry heavy boxes frequently, or do you just need to cart around  light objects? If you work in a warehouse or factory, it might be a good idea to get a heavy-duty hand truck. However, in a restaurant, office or grocery shop setting, getting a normal hand truck would suffice. Knowing your purpose, you need to get one that has a suitable load capacity. The loads that hand trucks can handle differs, so make sure to keep that in mind when comparing.

Using the information on what you’ll be using it for you can decide on the appropriate style, material, and type of hand truck.  Heavier duty hand trucks are generally made of steel, while more lightweight and flexible would generally be made of aluminum.  If you’re looking for a little more usage flexibility, consider a convertible hand truck, which can convert from a hand truck to a platform truck with ease.

After making the above considerations, you should be able to narrow down your options to an appropriate hand truck.  If you need help selecting a hand truck for your needs, check out C&H’s full selection of hand trucks online.  Or, if you want help from a trained product specialist, call us at 1-888-316-2223.

And if you REALLY want to be safe and prevent injury, you can go with a nice electric hand truck. They’re kind of like self-propelled lawn mowers. Very cool and safe!
